Stephen E. Kovach V // President & CEO
Stephen Kovach V was raised in the construction and sub-contracting business and started his formal career with Kovach Building Enclosures in 1997. Having gained experience in every department of the company over the last 20 years, Stephen has been promoted to President & CEO. He is responsible for the company’s long term strategy and growth initiatives, as well as oversight of revenue procurement, product development, manufacturing, and construction.
He and his wife, Drew, were married in 2006 and have three children. They are very active in their church and serve on various boards, participating in philanthropic activities such as building homes, drilling wells, and planting churches in many countries throughout the world. Steve enjoys scuba diving, mountain biking, snowmobiling and spending time with his family.
Marty McKinley // Vice President, Operations
Marty McKinley is the Vice President of Operations and oversees their project management and field management. He graduated from Bradley University where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Marty has worked as both a general contractor and subcontractor in the Chicago land area and the Southwest and has overseen projects nationwide. He spent more than 10 years with Trainor Glass Company as a project manager, production manager, and Division Manager of their Phoenix office. Marty has been instrumental in building the glazing arm of Kovach and is responsible for recruiting talented personnel in the office, shop, and field.
He married his high school sweetheart Megan and they are blessed with three daughters. When he’s not working, Marty enjoys traveling, snowboarding, hiking, rooting for the Cardinals and anything outdoors.
James Hatch // Vice President, Procurement
James Hatch is the Vice President of Procurement and is responsible for the oversight of pre-construction activities which include design assistance, estimating, sales and marketing. James comes from a family of 10 and is an Arizona native. Prior to joining Kovach, James worked for a national glazing contractor, a civil engineering firm and also has a Real Estate development background. James graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. degree in Design and Real Estate. James is a member of the Arizona Society of Professional Estimators and NAIOP.
James loves the outdoors and enjoys taking his wife and two sons fishing and hiking.
Jeremy Krauter // Vice President, Production
Jeremy Krauter is the Vice President of Production. He oversees a small army that is responsible for the fabrication, production, and quality control of various custom metal products. Prior to Kovach, Jeremy spent 14 years working his way up from production roles into management.
Jeremy is originally from Nebraska, but has considered Arizona his home since the mid-80’s. He and his wife, Karen, have been married for 17 years, and have one son. He enjoys exploring the back roads in his Jeep or on his quad with his son, camping, boating, and watching sports. A few of Jeremy’s favorite vacation spots include Colorado, Lake Powell, Sedona and Montana.
Clayton Walker // Director of Engineering
Clayton is the Director of Engineering and has more than 12 years of building enclosure experience. His well rounded skill set includes glazing design assist, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and project management. Clayton oversees the schedule and work flow of the glass detailing department and serves as a resource for our detailers, answering fabrication, procedural and technical questions. He also frequently works with designers and contractors to work through design intent, constructibility and installation concerns, as well as VE options.
Tyler Melius // Chief Draftsman
Tyler heads the metal detailing department. He provides oversight and assistance to all metal detailing teams through the completion of each project. Tyler has over 15 years of industry experience and has been a part of Kovach’s growth over the last 6 years, including contributions to many key projects, such as Nashville’s Music City Center and ExxonMobil’s corporate headquarters.
Outside of work, Tyler enjoys all things outdoors including hiking, and mountain biking, as well as spending time with his daughter.
Melissa Huber // Director of Human Resources
Melissa Huber is the Director of Human Resources. Starting as a part time Payroll Assistant at Kovach over 17 years ago, Melissa eagerly seized growth opportunities and now oversees employee benefits, performance management, policy development, employee relations, recruitment, payroll procedures, and IT. Melissa graduated, Cum Laude, from Arizona State University with a BS in Business Administration, concentrating on Accounting and Finance. Melissa is a member of the Society for HR Management, and regularly participates in educational opportunities related to HR compliance.
Melissa’s origins are in Iowa, but she has been residing in Arizona for the last 25 years. She is the mother of two children, and as a family, they enjoy exploring the outdoors and making memories through new experiences. During her free time, Melissa likes to exercise, hike, travel, and socialize with close friends and family.
Shawn Manske // Director of Safety & Risk Management
Shawn Manske is the Director of Safety and Risk Management and has been with the company since 1996. Shawn graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. Degree in Management, has an Associate Degree in Loss Control Management and is a Certified Safety Professional. Prior to Kovach, Shawn spent eleven years with the Arizona State Workers Compensation Fund.
Shawn is married with two daughters and you can find him most weekends, when he is not on the golf course, performing as a professional musician, currently with the local group “String Theory”.
